This beautiful 15,000 acre resort and retirement community offers the natural beauty of an Ozark forest, two 18-hole golf courses, 6 swimming pools, a private beach, tennis courts, recreation centers, fitness center, senior center, horseshoe pits, two nature trails, and seven lakes for boating or fishing. In addition, there are over 100 clubs and service organizations, 24 churches, and excellent schools for children and adults in the area.

Cherokee Village offers many recreational opportunities to provide residents and visitors with year-round activities. Among these are lakes, golf courses, parks, recreation centers, and a host of other facilities. With seven lakes and a portion of the South Fork River located within Cherokee Village, swimming, canoeing, boating and fishing are popular pastimes. There are two 18-hole golf courses located in Cherokee Village which offer Pro Shops, cart rentals and other services. The North Course has a driving range. There are tournaments scheduled throughout the year. Both courses are private with access restricted to owners and guests.

Cherokee Village has recreation centers available as well. In addition to activities such as swimming, shuffleboard, and other pastimes, the recreation centers are also used for meetings and other events.

The Cherokee Village Omaha Center has three swimming pools, a fully equipped health and fitness center, a stage and auditorium, meeting rooms, miniature golf, kitchen and spa facilities. Other activities are available as well.

If it’s boating or fishing you enjoy, the toughest decision you will have to make is where you want to do it!  The Village’s seven lakes vary in size from 19 to 264 acres.  There is a full service marina at Lake Thunderbird and a smaller marina on Lake Omaha.   All lakes have been stocked and abound with catfish, black and largemouth bass, crappie and other species native to the area.

The lakes located within the 15,000 acres of Cherokee Village offer property owners and guests an abundance of recreational opportunities. Lakes Thunderbird and Omaha are large enough for water sports as well as excellent home sites and fishing. Lake Sequoyah joins Lake Thunderbird by means of a man-made canal, thereby allowing use of both lakes. The remaining four lakes, Chanute, Aztec, Navaho and Cherokee are easily accessible for fishing and no-wake boating.

And if that’s not enough, two of the state’s free-flowing rivers offer some of the best canoeing, floating and fishing to be found anywhere. The Spring River, which begins 14 miles away at Mammoth Spring State Park, is formed by one of the largest springs in the world. It flows adjacent to Cherokee Village and is considered by many to be one of the best canoeing rivers in the State. There are numerous outfitters in the area providing equipment and transportation at very affordable rates. Adventures from leisurely float trips to white-water excitement can be arranged for your enjoyment. The South Fork River winds through the Village and provides the North Golf Course with added scenery.  Hook a small mouth bass on this stream, and you are in for a memorable battle.  And don’t be surprised if the bass you have on line is really a colorful walleye … the best eating fish you’ll find. And one last bit of news for floaters, canoeing is also popular on this stream. The Spring River’s South Fork is ”canoeable” during most months of the year. The first float, a twelve miler, is from Saddle (on Arkansas 289) to the bridge at the Cherokee Village Campground. A six-mile trip from this bridge down to Hardy Beach is also possible. While the South Fork’s gravel bars are great for picnicking, potential campers should note that these same gravel bars could be quickly inundated.  Enjoy the wildlife, foliage, wildflowers and peacefulness of the surrounding scenery.
